Our Story
Before Heavy Matters was a brand, it was conversations in markets and workshops Stories from grandparents, woodworkers, and artists who learned by watching the generation before them. The pieces we bring home carry those stories. The patient layers of lacquer, the careful weave of a basket, the grain of acacia that someone chose not to throw away, but to shape. Heavy Matters exists to hold space for that kind of care.
our messageRespectfully Sourced. Thoughtfully Shared.
Respectfully Sourced
We work slowly and intentionally, building relationships with:
Local markets and vintage collectors who rescue everyday objects before they disappear.
Small workshops and studios shaping Burmese lacquer, acacia wood, and regional materials with traditional and evolving techniques.
Independent artists and makers who play with form, color, and culture to create unexpected, joyful objects.
Whenever possible, we source directly, paying fairly and crediting makers by name, region, and craft. We strive to share not just the piece, but the context it comes from how it’s made, what it’s used for, and why it matters.
Thoughtfully Shared
Bringing these objects into new homes is a responsibility we take seriously. We:
Share the story and origin of each piece so it never becomes just “decor.”
Treat packaging and presentation as part of the ritual, careful, minimal, and reusable where we can.
Encourage living with these objects: scratching them, repairing them, giving them another life in your daily routine.
Heavy Matters is our way of carrying these histories forward without flattening or romanticizing them, so they can keep gathering meaning in the hands of the next owner.
